FAQs

Who is the Talented Wordsmith?
The Talented Wordsmith is a copywriting and communications consulting company owned and operated by me, Tangela Smith. I am the only employee, so I will not contract out any part of your project (unless it's graphics or web design). I do all my own writing, marketing and concept development. What's more, you own copyright to any content I come up with.

What kind of experience do you have?
I have more than 10 years of experience in marketing, communications and PR. I have successfully developed and managed marketing communications for a variety of industries including consumer products, education, health care, technology, non-profit and government. Aside from my ability to manage effective communications campaigns, what employers have been most impressed with is my knack for communicating ideas in writing. For more about me, here's a link to my bio.

How does the process work?
First thing's first! Whether you have a specific project in mind or aren't sure how exactly you want someone to help, let's get in touch to chat in depth about your needs. This gives me a chance to learn more about your company, and you can get to know me better. Once we talk, I'll work up a written no-obligation quote. Then, you'll review, sign and return it to me. Finally, you'll provide me with background materials, so I can promptly get started on your project. Usually I require 25% down, with the remainder due once your project is completed.

What are your fees?
My fees vary and are quoted based on the project. After speaking with you in detail about your organization and discovering your goals and objectives, I can provide a detailed written quote for your specific project. However, if the client prefers or for longer-term projects, I'd be happy to provide an hourly rate.

Is there a deposit involved?
I do ask for a small deposit before starting any project. Normally, it's around 25% of the quote. If other arrangements are needed, I'm open to discussion. The remaining balance is due upon full completion of the project.

Where are you located?
While I reside in Maryland -- halfway between our nation's capital and Baltimore -- I can assist companies anywhere in the world, thanks to the internet, e-mail, Skype, IM and phone. Much of my work tends to be done over the phone or through e-mail, so face-to-face meetings usually aren't necessary. However, if you're a local client, I certainly wouldn't object to meeting you in person.

Can you work with my employees or vendors?
From graphic designers to marketing managers to engineers to CEOs, I've had experience working with pretty much every employee or professional vendor. While I am a freelancer, I'll collaborate with any of your vendors, business partners, employees or customers to get the job done. I take pleasure in being a valuable extension of your communications team.
